The White County School Board exploring options to determine the best path forward in deeding property over to the BonDeCroft Volunteer Fire Department.
Not being the owner of the portion of property has hindered the fire department from receiving grants to improve the fire station. School Board Chairman Bob Young said the board has received several suggestions, including selling the property to the fire department. Young said selling the property might not be the best vehicle to help the department.
“We are trying to talk to the county, talking to some attorneys, experts, that understand some of these transactions to give us a little guidance, so we can get back with them and continue the discussion,” Young said.
Young said the fire department brought forth some information that was needed in order to begin to move forward in the recent discussion. Young said the board wants to make sure that the process is handled the right way.
“We can’t just go out and arbitrarily sell to an individual or an entity, for that matter, without making sure it falls under proper procedures as the way that we handle that,” Young said. “There are a few things like that, that we are trying to work through to determine what is the best way we can support them and what they are wanting to do. Ultimately, we want to get there and not stand in their way.”
Young said though the discussion has gone on for a few months, the plan is to get a resolution soon.
“It is something that our intent is not to drag our feet, but also at the same time, go through the proper steps and doing it right,” Young said.
