Fire Station Two Still Behind, January Completion Date

Crossville’s Fire Station Two project remains behind schedule, but progress has been made.

City Council received an update Tuesday night. City Engineer Tim Begley said electrical, HVAC, and plumbing are completed on the east and west ends of the building, and they are finishing up the metal trim work and gutters. Begley said the next steps are installing an exhaust system and installing binder asphalt.

“They should be finishing up the stone for that this week, and we ought to be able to install our binder asphalt here in the next couple of weeks,” Begley said. “We are still a little bit behind schedule. Still looks like it’s gonna be the end of January before the work is finished.”

The council asked about the amount of water that was entering the station, specifically in areas where sheetrock had already been installed. Begley said the water issue has since been addressed.

“There were no gutters on the building during that time period, and they have taken dry-wall down and replaced the insulation behind it,” Begley said. “We had a really good discussion about that about three or four weeks ago, that they could not install drywall over wet studs, much less wet insulation.”

Begley said the contractor had also not caulked around the windows at the time, which contributed to some of the water getting inside the building.

The estimated $3.5 million project is being constructed on the corner of Interstate Drive and Cottonpatch Drive. The station is expected to improve response times and handle the growth in population that Crossville has seen in recent years.

The original completion date was set for the end of 2025.

The council also authorized the city’s finance director to move forward with the bond fund for Fire Stations one and two.

In other business, the council approved a donation to the Military Museum.

The council approved a grant application to the Department of Justice for grant money to purchase police vests. Several grant contracts were approved, including the Airport Maintenance Grant, Asset Management Plan Grant, LPRF Grant, and Urban Forester Grant.

The council approved a change order and final summary for the TAP grant project. A contract amendment regarding the Fourth Street and West Avenue intersection was approved.
