Monterey closer to hiring a codes director and building inspector.
Monterey Mayor Alex Garcia said the position recently discussed in a work session, as an individual reached out wanting to take the job. Garcia said though the county had provided a codes director to help Monterey, the town needs to have its own.
“You know the money that comes into that, it’s going to Putnam County instead of coming to Monterey,” Garcia said. “And then, like I said, on the flipside of that, it’s always been that we had a building inspector and they were to do our code enforcement as well, so we haven’t had that in a number of years.”
Garcia said not having a codes director and building inspector was one of the top complaints the town has received from citizens. Garcia said he is glad to finally find someone to take the job.
“I had a good conversation with him and, you know, obviously, nothing is finalized,” Garcia said. “We will go to the December meeting, and that will be on the agenda, and if we are good with that, then I will reach back out to him. And you know, if we can come to an agreement, then that’s gonna be amazing for Monterey. He will probably start at the first of the year.”
Garcia said he wanted to make sure the town had money budget for the position before proposing a hire. Garcia said the town does have the funds.
Though Garcia did not list any specific areas, he said there are a few places in Monterey that will be the first order of business if the hire is made.
The Board of Aldermen is scheduled to meet December 1.
