Livingston Hosts Christmas in the Country, Begins Friday

Livingston set to host its annual Christmas in the Country on the town square beginning this weekend, a three-week holiday celebration.

Livingston-Overton Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Zach Stephens said the festivities have been have gone on for many years. The event originated to help merchants on the square. Stephens said the town sees visitors from the county and beyond.

“The holiday season is a great time to get together” Stephens said. “And Christmas in the Country is just one of those times that we can all come together and have a great time and make some really cherished memories as a community.”

Stephens said this promotes community by bringing people from in town and out of town together to enjoy goods provided by local businesses.

“(This event) is also an economic driver for the businesses around the square and just off of it,” Stephens said.

Stephens said the event began small, growing into the winter wonderland it is by adding on activities year after year. Stephens said the town goes all out every season, focusing on promoting a positive atmosphere for tourists and locals alike.

“Like a Hallmark movie,” Stephens said. “And I believe that people from other communities want to come to Overton County, and Livingston in particular, to experience that.”

Stephens said Santa arrives on the first night, then the night continues with a Tree-lighting. The Chamber has added the Grinch this year. Stephens said townspeople can take photos with the Grinch.

Stephens said there is a tree decorating contest, the Christmas of Dreams, local businesses and organizations can compete in Livingston Central Park. Stephens said there will also be an Ice Skating Rink available from the end of the month to the end of next month.

Stephens said other activities include large snow-globe pop-ups, an Everest climbing slide and miniature pony pictures.
