Tennessee Tech Dean of Students Katie Aikens will serve as Interim Vice President for Student Affairs.
Aikens will be the first woman to take this role with the University. President Phil Oldham said Aikens has served in higher education for about 20 years, recommending her for the interim position.
“We’re in the situation where we need to make another appointment in the search to fill the position permanently, and I’m really delighted and honored to be able to recommend to the board, to the Executive Committee, Dr. Katie Aikens,” Oldham said.
Oldham said Aikens has served in Student Affairs in many different capacities over the years, making her qualified for the position. Oldham said she is currently serving as Director of Student Activities and Campus Life.
“I just wanted to thank President Oldham for his confidence in me leading the Division of Student Affairs in this Interim role,” Aikens said. “Student Affairs always has been and will continue to be on student engagements, student well-being, and just overall student success.”
Aikens said in the Spring, Student Affairs plans to increase efforts to support student organizations, fraternity and sorority life groups and the Student Government Association. Aikens said the organization plans to enhance well-being initiatives, such as mental health offerings.
“I’m just pleased for the opportunity to serve,” Aikens said. “To serve our students, to serve our dedicated Student Affairs professionals, and appreciate your consideration.”
Aikens is a two-time Tech grad.
