Gainesboro Considering Repairs To Wastewater Plant

Gainesboro Aldermen will have to find a new path forward to repair damages to the Wastewater Treatment Plant after the town’s insurance claim was denied.

Gainesboro’s plant was built in 2001. Town Recorder Darla Pippin said the cornerstones of the plant’s structure are falling off. Pippin said the claim was denied because the structure has been slowly settling over time, but was not reported.

“You can see where they tried to fix it some time ago, and Chad (Chad Scott) said it was before him, where it was already cracking, and they have tried to putty it and stuff,” Pippin said. “So they should have turned it back in when it first started.”

Pippin said repairs will be needed because the corners will be open and water could infiltrate the building. Street Department Representative Joe Lynch said he received a recommendation to brick the corners as a repair.

“They are like half blocks,” Lynch said. “They are like cut in half, and they are pushed up on there. And it’s kind of more like a grout or something, like you put concrete around the house.”

The town will get bids to see what repairs would cost. Mayor Lloyd Williams said if it needs to be fixed, then might as well get somebody to look at it.
