Tech Athletics Close To Finalizing New Strategic Plan

Tennessee Tech Athletics will look to steer its athletic programs in a new direction as the department is finalizing its new strategic plan.

Tennessee Tech Athletic Director Casey Fox said the plan covers the department’s values and how to achieve goals moving forward. Fox said one of the goals is enhancing the student-athlete experience.

“We want to make it the best that we possibly can,” Fox said. “We know things have changed over the last few years, but you know, I think, you know, making sure the student athletes, they are having the best experience they possibly can, not only on the field but off the field, you are giving them the tools to be successful.”

Fox said other values covered in the plan are enhancing revenue and the competitiveness of the athletic programs. Fox said education is still a top priority for the university and is a big piece of the strategic plan.

“The educational piece isn’t lost on Tennessee Tech and Tennessee Tech Athletics,” Fox said. “It’s still, you know, a main cog in everything that we do, and I want to make sure that we keep the importance high. We are not a football factory, so while we have our student athletes here, we are gonna give them everything that we can to be competitive in the classroom and competitive on the field as well.”

Fox said the department has been working on the plan for several months. Fox said he hopes to reveal the complete details of the plan to the public next month.

“A lot of it has come from my experiences, you know, in places I have come from,” Fox said. “You know, obviously Montana State and Washington State, where I was before, but also the senior staff here,” Fox said. “I wanted to make sure that they are involved in this and that they have given their input because I need their buy-in.”

Fox said the strategic plan will hopefully set up the athletic programs to bein a better position in the future.
