Council To Consider Next Step On Meadow Park Expansion

Crossville set to consider mitigation service proposals as the next step on the Meadow Park Lake expansion after a Tuesday night work session.

City Engineer Tim Begley said developing a full mitigation plan will take roughly six months. Begley said that will setup the city to take the next step.

“We should be really close to submitting a permit application,” Begley said. “The permit application will not be a full application, but it will have enough mitigation wording in there so that we can go out for public comment.”

Crossville City Manager Valerie Hale said it will cost the city an estimated $100,000 to develop the contract and for the engineers to complete the permit process.

“We feel like we’re gonna have a full package to go in the permit, and we feel like it’ll take the Corps about a year, the Corps and TDEC about a year to approve the permit at that point in time,” Begley said. “So once we get that contract, we feel like we’re probably about 18 months out from receiving the permit.”

The council asked if the city would be locked into the mitigation and cost of the engineering company once the permit is received. Begley said that is something that the city will have to work out in the contract.

“It’s gonna be a tough contract to work through,” Begley said. “It’s a little different animal with financials. We are gonna have to have some kind of financial insurance from the proposals.”

Mayor R.J. Crawford said he is seeking clarity on when the city would be locked into larger financial commitments. Begley said the city would not face significantly higher costs until after the permit is approved.

The council will consider approving the development of the mitigation services contract at next Tuesday’s city council meeting.
