Overton County Schools will hold an Emergency Flex and Virtual Learning and Community Support Day on Monday, February 9, 2026, with food, water, and learning resources available for students and families across the district.
Overton County Director of Schools Kim Dillon said the day is designed to support families after recent disruptions and to help schools reconnect with students while regular operations remain limited.
“We know the past two weeks have been incredibly challenging for our community,” Dillon said. “Families have experienced extended school closures, limited access to water, and disruptions to daily routines. Please know that the well-being of our students and families remains our top priority.”
All school campuses except Livingston Academy will be open from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. for scheduled pickup times. Elementary and middle schools will host families at their assigned campuses, while high school students may pick up food from the closest elementary school.
“To help us reconnect with students and provide support, Overton County Schools will hold an Emergency Flex/Virtual Learning & Community Support Day,” Dillon said. “Our focus for the Emergency Flex/Virtual Learning & Community Support Day is for students to pick up learning packets, receive grab-and-go meals, and receive bottled water for household use while supplies last.”
District buses will run on a two-hour late schedule to serve bus riders. Students will be able to exit the bus at school, collect food and instructional packets, then return home on the same route.
“Cases of water will be loaded onto the bus for each household,” Dillon said. “Faculty members will ride on the buses to help students get items from the bus to the house.”
The virtual learning plan tied to the flex day will focus on review rather than new instruction. Students will be asked to complete one or two simple activities per day, with work counted for completion only.
“This Virtual Learning Day is designed to be low-stress and flexible,” Dillon said. “No new instruction will be introduced, and enough work will be given in case we have to have multiple virtual days.”
Teachers in grades kindergarten through twelve will be available by email during the school day timeframe. The district said flexibility will be offered to families who are unable to complete work each day.
“We understand that every family’s situation is different,” Dillon said. “If you are unable to complete work each day, grace and flexibility will be extended.”
Additional details about pickup times and procedures will be shared directly by each school. The district thanked families for patience and continued partnership during the ongoing disruptions.
