Tennessee Tech employing a new employee evaluation tool as part of a broader software system to assist supervisors who conduct performance reviews.
Human Resources Associate Vice President Kevin Vedder said the new tool is included in the university’s new HR and Finance software. Vedder said the tool is robust and provides supervisors with a performance tracking window for their assigned employees. Vedder said this performance tracking window will make evaluations easier for supervisors.
“What their key performance measures have been, the things that they have done over the year to help the supervisor better gauge, you know, the key contributions that the employee has made, and have a good dialogue if the performance during the review session,” Vedder said.
Vedder said the performance window is also available for employees to keep track of their performance. Vedder said that the new evaluation tool only applies to non-faculty positions.
“The faculty will continue to use the platform that they have been using,” Vedder said. “So that doesn’t change for the faculty, just for our non-faculty employees.”
Vedder said the university’s annual performance evaluation period typically starts in February. Vedder said the employee evaluation process will not change except for using the new evaluation tool.
“Anytime you have something new, you can expect that there will probably be some things along the way that did not work as planned or some hiccups that we have to work through,” Vedder said. “And we’ve got our HR team available to work through that, as well as a support ticketing system.”
Vedder said the university is eager to see how this year’s performance evaluations go with the new software. The new system cost the university an estimated $20 million to implement.
The university finished setting up the Talon system in January.
