Sitton Leading Cumberland County Jets With Poise, Purpose

As he enters his senior season, Solomon Sitton said he has fully embraced the responsibility that comes with running the show at point guard for the Cumberland County Jets.

The 6-foot guard, now handling primary point guard duties said he is not just focused on scoring. He is focused on control, tempo, decision-making, efficiency, and above all, winning.

Sitton said he prides himself on embracing contact and limiting mistakes, two traits that have helped him evolve into the steady hand Cumberland County relies on.

“Sometimes [our offense] reminds me of Tennessee’s offense a little bit,” Sitton said. “Tennessee’s offense is very quarterback friendly and, our offense, I’m able to make the reads and it’s all going to be right there for me to make the right reads so I kind of relate it to that and I believe we can excel from that.”

Like a quarterback at the line of scrimmage, Sitton said he surveys the floor, reads the defense and reacts. Sitton said the comparison is not accidental, it reflects how he sees the game.

“It’s usually a night by night thing,” Sitton said. “I usually take it one possession at a time and go from there.”

After earning All-District nominee recognition earlier in his career, Sitton has taken another leap this season. His scoring average has jumped by five points per game, a noticeable increase that reflects both confidence and growth within the offense. But statistics alone do not tell the whole story.

“A lot of my stats don’t show that I wasn’t very efficient,” Sitton said. “I look to get better at that and pass that down to other players as well.”

That desire to improve, and to bring teammates along with him, underscores his maturation as a senior leader. Sitton said he is not chasing numbers, but instead chasing standards.

Whether it is absorbing contact in the lane, knocking down timely shots or setting up teammates in scoring positions, his impact goes beyond the box score.
