First Round District Matchups Underway In UC Basketball


The first district tournament games took place over the last few games, and the results show some teams advancing to the region tournaments, with other teams in the Upper Cumberland seeing their seasons end.

In District 6A, Van Buren defeated Sale Creek Thursday and will play Tuesday night in South Pittsburg for the district championship.

District 6A girls tournament action sees Van Buren also advancing to the district championship by holding Whitwell to 14 points in their win. They will vie for back to back district championships Monday night at 7:30.

District 6AA boys action saw Monterey and York fall in their district semifinal games. They will square off in the third place game Tuesday night at 6 in Monterey.

In the District 6AA tournament, York defeated Monterey in the semifinals and will look for another district championship against Smith County Monday night at 7:30 in Monterey. Monterey will battle Cannon County Monday night at 6.

Cookeville advanced to the semifinals in the District 6AAAA tournament by defeating Warren County in overtime. The Cavaliers then fell to Shelbyville on Saturday and will play for third place in Coffee County Tuesday night at 6 pm. Warren County’s season ended with a loss.

District 6AAAA girls tournament action saw Cookeville advance to the district championship by defeating Shelbyville. Cookeville will seek an opportunity to host a region game Monday night at 7:30 in Coffee County. Warren County fell to Shelbyville in the first round of the tournament, with their season ending as a result of the loss.

In the boys District 7A tournament, Picket County and Jackson County advanced to the district championship by defeating Clay County and Clarkrange, respectively. The third place game is set for Tuesday night at 6, and the district championship set to follow, with both games being held at Livingston Academy.

Pickett County and Jackson County also advanced to the district championship in the District 7A girls tournament by defeating Clay County and Clarkrange. The third place game will take place Monday night at 6, with the championship to tip off at 7:30.

In District 7AAA boys action, Cumberland County defeated Stone Memorial to advance to the championship game. They will face Upperman, who defeated White County. White County and Stone Memorial will battle in the consolation game Tuesday at 6, followed by the championship game between Upperman and Cumberland County. Both games will be held at Cookeville High School.

The district 7AAA girls tournament will see Stone Memorial and Upperman advance to the district championship Monday night at 7:30. Livingston and White County will battle in the consolation game Monday night at 6 at Cookeville High School.

DeKalb County girls will compete for a district championship in Class 8AAA Monday night at 7:30 pm as they head to Watertown to face the Purple Tigers.

DeKalb County also saw their boys advance to the district championship over the weekend. The Tigers will face Macon County Tuesday night at 7:30 pm in Watertown.
