The preliminary outline for the extension of Henley Drive, from Sams Street to Bunker Hill Road south of Interstate 40, approved by the Cookeville Planning Commission.
Community Development Director Jon Ward said the project sits on approximately 0.799 acres zoned for regional commercial use.
“The submitted plat depicts the extension of Henley Drive from the intersection of Sams Street and Henley Drive to Bunker Hill Road,” Ward said. “The extension is a three-lane extension matching the existing Henley Drive street section and meets the standards of the Cookeville subdivision regulations.”
Ward said the proposed section includes a right-of-way width of 60 feet with a 20-foot utility easement on the northern edge. He said the Fire Department noted a hydrant must be installed, and the Water Quality Control department indicated they are upgrading the current hydrant for the area.
“The city has acquired the necessary right-of-way and easements to construct this street, and the council has awarded a construction bid for this project,” Ward said. “So this was awarded by the city council at a February meeting.”
The design features a sidewalk running along the north side of the street to tie into Bunker Hill Road. Additionally, a traffic signal has already been installed at the intersection of Henley Drive and South Jefferson Avenue as part of ongoing construction in the area.
“It was designed to be extended, you can see from its current condition there where it was stubbed out headed to the west,” Ward said. “That’s looking back to the south with the Rogers Group facility located adjacent to that to the south.”
Ward recommended preliminary approval subject to any necessary corrections or additions required by city departments. Following the presentation, the commission moved quickly to a vote with no opposition voiced during the meeting.
“So our recommendation is preliminary approval subject to any completion or corrections and or additions to the plat as deemed necessary by planning or other city departments,” Ward said. “Happy to answer any questions from the commission on this one.”
The commission voted unanimously to approve the request.
