Clay Schools: No Plans To Close Hermitage Springs School

The Clay County Board of Education addressed rumors Thursday night, saying there are no plans to permanently close Hermitage Springs School.

During the meeting, a question was raised about whether the district intends to close the school within the next three years. School Board Member James Mays said he was unaware of such a move.

“I have never heard this, but evidently that is a rumor out there,” Bailey said. “So if anybody watches this video, there are currently no plans to close Hermitage Springs School. And it has been asked at the board, and I don’t know where we would put those kids, but it’s not going to happen.”

Director of Schools Diana Monroe said if such a move were considered, that would be up to the school board. Monroe also noted that the district is continuing to invest in the facility, including planned window repairs this summer.

“We are spending lots of money on the Hermitage Springs building with all the window repair this summer,” Monroe said.

Board members also indicated they had no plans to bring forward a proposal to close the school.
