Rickman Recreation Needs Upgrades, Fundraiser Set

The Rickman Recreation Center is hosting a fundraiser to help restore the community’s park facilities and build new pickleball courts.

Rickman Recreation Center Board President Clint Melton said the money raised can serve as matching funds required for future grant applications to further improve the property.

“The Rickman Rec Center kind of fallen into disrepair over the last few decades,” Melton said. “And so this is an opportunity, we had an opportunity to re-establish the board and re-establish the non-profit and so we’re using that opportunity to try to bring the park back and provide recreation services for our local community.”

The proceeds from the event will directly support the restoration of the Rickman Community Center building and the addition of pickleball courts, addressing decades of disrepair at the facility. The non-profit board recently completed renovations on the park’s baseball field and is now focusing on these next phases of development.

“So we’ve had a lot of support, but we need a lot more support,” Melton said. “So the last push, the last three weeks, we’re trying to get all these tickets sold. So if you would like a ticket, please, please, please contact us and we’ll get you a ticket.”

The fundraiser will offer 350 tickets at $100 each for a chance to win the mower, Melton said.

The drawing and festivities will take place on April 5 at Bilbrey’s Crossing in Rickman, located right beside the recreation center. The Easter egg hunt is scheduled to begin around 3:00, with the mower drawing following at approximately 5:00.

“But if you are able to make it to the event, everyone who buys a ticket will have a meal,” Melton said. “We’re going to have walking tacos and drinks. And we’re also going to have before the drawing, we’re going to have a Easter egg hunt for the kids or adults either one. So, it should be a good time.”

Tickets can be purchased at several local businesses, including R & M Family Pharmacy, Livingston Vet Clinic, Wellworth Bank, Algood Family Pharmacy, and Family Wellness Pharmacy in Cookeville.
