A Putnam County Woman has been arrested on murder charges after allegedly killing a woman who had been reported missing.
Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris said investigators learned that 57-year-old Lora Morgan allegedly killed 34-year-old Samanatha Goolsby over a domestic dispute. Farris said Goolsby had been reported missing by her family since Tuesday.
“Out of the domestic and whatever disagreement they had, Laura ended up shooting and killing Samantha Goolsby,” Farris said. “She confessed to that to my investigators.”
Farris said investigators found Goolsby’s body after a homeowner on Phy Road reported that he had found a partially concealed body on the woodline of his property. Morgan has been taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. Farris said the case is still under investigation.
“We have the body. We have a person confessing to the crime, but we have to make sure the crime scene corroborates what is being said and what we found,” Farris said.
Farris added that investigators are also reviewing phone records and conducting additional interviews as part of the case. Farris said he describes the situation as tragic and said cases like this are difficult for both law enforcement and the community.
“It’s just a terrible situation,” Farris said. “We hate that this happened and certainly don’t like reporting this negative news in Putnam County.”
Morgan has been booked into the Putnam County jail with a bond set for $820,000.
Farris said the public plays an important role in investigations and said the property owner played a huge role in helping the investigation. Farris closed by thanking the public for its continued support in helping law enforcement do its job.
