Clay County’s Adams Commits To University Of The Cumberlands

Clay County’s all-time leading tackler is taking his next step.

For Reece Adams, that step is continuing both his academic and athletic career at University of the Cumberlands, a decision shaped by years of work, support, and steady growth into one of the Upper Cumberland’s most complete football players.

Adams, a senior running back and linebacker for the Clay County Bulldogs, leaves behind a decorated high school career that includes more than 1,400 rushing yards in his senior season and a school-record 322 career tackles. But behind the numbers is a story built on consistency, and the people who helped him get there.

Adams said his dad was there for every practice and every camp he went to. Adams said his father played a major role in his journey, especially as recruiting intensified.

From long days at exposure camps to managing highlight film and communication, Adams said the process required more than just performance on Friday nights.

“Camps are a lot of work,” Adams said. “You got a lot of eyes on you, and you got to get your film in and get it out and it’s kind of a lot all at once cause you’re still dealing with school and the season and workouts and everything that you got to do at the same time.”

That workload paid off, drawing interest from multiple programs before Adams ultimately chose the Patriots.

Adams said every school that recruited him played a role in the process, but relationships made the difference. Adams said Clay County head coach Bruce Lamb has helped him throughout his career as a Bulldog.

“Off the field, [he’s] just a great guy,” Adams said. “I’m very happy he got to move in and be an influence on my life.”

Lamb said Adams’ impact was clear from the very beginning.

“We knew he was a very special talent and had a lot of potential,” Lamb said. “He never slowed down. Every chance he had to go out on the field, he played his tail off as hard as he could.”

As he prepares to join the program at the University of the Cumberlands, Adams carries with him not only production and accolades, but the work ethic and support system that helped him earn the opportunity in the first place.
