For Livingston Academy senior Drew Goolsby, success at the baseball diamond is not left to chance. Goolsby said it is built one swing at a time.
Goolsby has spent his entire life around the game, and now, entering his fourth season on the Wildcats’ roster, that lifelong dedication is showing up in the details of his daily routine.
Much of that work happens just steps from his front door. Goolsby said a batting cage built at his home about a year and a half ago has become the centerpiece of his development, and a symbol of the bond he shares with his father.
“It was a great moment between me and my dad,” Goolsby said. “We had always gone up to the field or we’d go up to wherever we were playing that day and get extra reps. It’s amazing to have a cage in my own home.”
What started as a surprise quickly turned into a daily commitment. Goolsby said he now spends anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour in the cage each day, refining his swing and gaining an edge.
“I really just wanted to jump on the competition,” Goolsby said. “Every rep that I’m getting in that they’re not is a rep better that I am than they are.”
That mindset reflects the work ethic instilled in him by his father, one that has helped shape Goolsby into a reliable, versatile player for Livingston Academy. A multi-sport athlete who has also contributed on the football field, Goolsby brings a physical presence and competitive edge that translates naturally to baseball.
At the plate, his focus is on consistency and control. Goolsby said at the plate, he constantly adjusts and letting the ball come to him.
As his senior season unfolds, Goolsby said his goals stretch beyond personal improvement. Goolsby said he is focused on helping Livingston Academy take the next step as a team.
“I want to win a district tournament and make it to those region games,” Goolsby said. “I want my team to succeed and I want to make it to the next level and just keep playing.”
With a daily routine built on discipline and a passion that started in childhood, Goolsby is doing everything he can to make sure his final season leaves a lasting impact.
