Next Step For White County Budget Comes Next Week

The White County Commission Budget Committee will meet Monday evening to review the initial rough draft of the upcoming fiscal year budget.

Finance Director Chad Marcum presented a financial update to the committee Monday regarding recent revenue trends ahead of the upcoming budget discussions. The county has seen an increase in both property tax and local option sales tax collections compared to the previous fiscal year.

“So I just bring that forward to give you the information that our sales tax has grown a little bit from where we had it budgeted for fiscal year ’26, so we will have some of that that we can utilize for some of the requests that were made as well,” Marcum said.

Marcum said he would suggest trying to finalize the budget June 1 with the Budget Committee. It would be presented to the full county commission June 8 and set for commission approval June 15.

Voters will go to the polls Tuesday to consider a sales tax increase to even revenue between county residents and Sparta residents.

Marcum said he believes the committee will have some additional money to consider its goals for the new year.
