Lee, Wells, Morgan Compete In August For Jackson Mayor


In the Jackson County Mayoral race, Republican Brian Lee received 80 percent of the vote, defeating Jonathan Goodwin and will advance to face Democrat Aurora Wells and Independent Jim Morgan in August.

Chris Carter will advance as the Republican candidate for Jackson County Sheriff, to face Independents Marty Hinson and Roy Shepherd in August.

Jackson County Commission District One Republican Commissioners Chas Heady with 58 percent of the vote and Joshua Suiter with 37 percent of the vote will advance to August. No Democratic candidates qualified. They will face Independents Jeff Smallwood, Douglas Stafford and Joey Denson.

District Two of Jackson County had no Republican or Democratic candidates on the ballot. Independents Joe Barlow, Joshua Denson, and Dustin Durflinger will be on the August ballot.

District Three for Jackson County will see Darrell Church, Mickie Davis and James Maberry all advance with no Democrats qualifying. Independents Shelby Fox, Jimmy “Bo” Davis and Roger L. Flatt will on the August ballot.

District Four will see Austin Burton and Gary Garrison advance, with no qualifying Democrats. Independents Paul Ballard and Thomas Wilmoth Jr. will be on the August ballot as well.

District Five, Republican Raymond Cockerham will advance to August and face Independents Jack Meadows and Richard Head.

District Six, Republicans Kevin Cummins and Mark Dosch will advance to face Independent Anthony Buck in August.

Michelle Hix is the Republican candidate for Register of Deeds unopposed in August.

Daniel Garrison will be on the August ballot as an Independent for Road Superintendent with no Republican or Democratic candidates on the ballot.

Jeff Hardy advances to August unopposed as Jackson County Circuit Court Clerk.

Jackson County School Board District One Janet Dudney Meadows will advance to face Independent Emily Trisdale in August. In School Board District Four, Republican Shannon Wilson will advance unopposed to August.

School Board District Six, Republican Lisa Finch will advance to face Independent Dustin Kennedy.
