Council Approves All-Way Stop At Quinland Lake, RC Buck

Council Approves All-Way Stop At Quinland Lake, RC Buck

Algood will install an all-way stop at the intersection of RC Buck and Quinland Lake Road to address ongoing safety and visibility concerns.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said the decision followed a traffic study requested by the council several months ago to evaluate the intersection. Morrison said while the study found the stop was not strictly required based on traffic volume or crash data, it was warranted due to limited sight distances for drivers.

“The traffic study indicated, according to traffic volume and crash data, that it was not necessary, but based on sight distance and the safety concerns that an all-way stop would be warranted,” Morrison said. “It’s our recommendation that rather than have to maintain that cut back in growth and worry about trying to get into fences and things that we go ahead and install an all-way stop if that be the council’s wish.”

Councilwoman Ruby Hawkins said she brought the issue forward because of the danger posed to residents and children in the area. Hawkins said the current configuration requires drivers on Quinland Lake Road to pull into the middle of the intersection before they can see oncoming traffic on RC Buck.

“I think that intersection is, I’ve been down there several times and said they scared the kids are going to get hurt because coming down Quinland Lake Road is a stop sign but RC Buck don’t have one and right to the right you can’t you’ve got to get out in the middle of the road before you can see a vehicle coming,” Hawkins said.
