Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats Flag Football player Allie Reams scored the first touchdown in program history during the team’s inaugural flag football season.
Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats player Ally Reams said the team began its first year of competition this season. Reams said the squad faced Warren County in the opening game of the year.
“Um, I mean, definitely in our first game, I scored the first touchdown, so that was a highlight of the year,” Reams said. “I mean, it was kind of just shock, like we was playing Warren County and they’ve had a team for so long and they were really good. I mean, I didn’t really know what to think, it was just excitement and shock.”
Reams said she plays tight end on the offensive side of the ball and linebacker for the defense. Reams said the team has focused on learning the specific rules of the sport and improving flag-pulling techniques.
“Um, I definitely enjoy playing linebacker for defense ’cause I’m right there in the action and I get to go after the quarterback a lot and that’s definitely fun,” Reams said. “And on offense, I enjoy tight end because I just get to run little routes and it’s fun to get the ball.”
Reams said the transition to flag football has been less stressful than her experiences playing basketball and softball. Reams said the new sport allows the players to focus on having fun while remaining competitive.
“Um, I just think the most challenging thing is like overcoming like just the humps of everyone that we’ve played so far has had a team for several years, it’s our first year, we’re all competitive, we just want to win, and I mean, we’ve not had a bad record, but we’ve not had the best record that we would all want to have, so I just think overcoming those humps in being so close but still losing,” Reams said.
Reams said she decided to join the team because she grew up around the game watching her brother play. Reams said the first practices for the Lady Wildcats involved a significant learning curve as the players adjusted to the differences between flag football and traditional football.
“Um, it’s definitely like amazing that we get to be a part of the first flag football team, I’m just honored to be a part of it,” Reams said.
Reams said she hopes to see continued personal and team improvement as the season progresses.
