Confession Leads To Arrest In Perdue Burglary Case

Monterey Police made an arrest Monday following an investigation of items being stolen at the former Perdue Chicken Plant off Interstate 40.

Police arrested Robert Wayne Phillips on burglary, theft, and vandalism charges. Phillips confessed to the break-in. Officers responded to the 340,000 square foot facility Monday morning. Two employees reported several items missing and told officers they had seen a suspect.

Officers cleared the entire facility and discovered several items piled up near exit doors.

After completing an inventory of the missing property and photographing the scene, officers identified Phillips as the suspect. An officer patrolling the area of East Lou’s Avenue and Standing Stone Drive located an individual believed to be Phillips.

Phillips was taken to the Monterey Police Department for an interview where he admitted to the crimes and disclosed the location of the stolen property. Officers went to a residence and recovered the missing items.

The plant closed last year.
