Millard Oakley Library Board Opens Candidate Applications

The Millard Oakley Public Library Board is seeking to fill an upcoming vacancy following a discussion regarding term expirations during a special called meeting Wednesday.

Board Chairman Jerry Schetterer said the board needs to find a replacement for member Thelma Danner, whose term is scheduled to conclude.

“We have a stack of resumes of all resumes that were have been submitted for replacements,” Schetterer said. “We can either do this tonight or we can do this at the next meeting.”

The board opted to postpone the selection of a new member until its next scheduled meeting. The decision followed a brief clarification regarding the standardization of board terms.

The board said the state moved to standardize all board terms to run from July to June starting in 2022. Schetterer said county records indicate Danner’s second term is set to end June 30, 2026, making her eligible for reappointment in July 2029.

In other business, the board approved the nomination of Philip Talley to the board. Schetterer said Talley will serve as the Library Board County Commissioner representative to finish the term of Helen Carter, who recently resigned.

The board voted to reappoint members Brenda Wingham and Bruce Godfrey to new three-year terms. Schetterer said both members were previously serving unexpired terms and will now have new expiration dates of June 30, 2029.
