A Putnam County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrested and charged with driving under the influence following a single-car accident Tuesday.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said the incident involved Deputy Chase Carter in Jackson County. The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Carter was operating his personal vehicle at the time of the crash.
Carter has been placed on leave.
“Although I am thankful no one was harmed in the car accident, I am saddened by the behavior of Deputy Carter,” Sheriff Eddie Farris said. “Deputy Carter contributed to this office during his time as a Corrections and Patrol Deputy.”
Carter began as a corrections deputy in 2023. Carter has served as a patrol deputy since 2025.
