The Fentress County Board of Commissioners approved a series of budget amendments Monday, including funding for summer education programs.
Fentress County Director Of Schools Kristi Hall said said the largest single amendment was for $283,523 to set up summer learning camps funded by the state. She said the county is hosting these camps to help students advance their skills.
“We are having camp at two locations this year, so I think we got about close to 300 kids going to summer camp,” Hall said.
The system also works with TCAT Huntsville on an additional summer learning program.
“This is where our kids get to do a lot of STEM activities and stuff over the summer,” Hall said.
The board also approved a $10,000 budget setup for the No Kid Hungry program, which assists with summer feeding initiatives. Hall said the majority of those funds will be used for personnel to package and prepare food for delivery.
“In addition to helping and serving, we will generate revenue, which will help our 143 nutritional budget throughout the year,” Hall said.
Commissioners also approved a grant application for the Senior Center ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 with no local match required. The primary goal for those funds is to pave the Senior Center’s parking area.
The board moved to recess the meeting until June 30 to finalize the remaining budget items for the upcoming fiscal year.
