Crossville Sports Authority Targets May Rec Facility Opening

Crossville Sports Authority targeting a May opening date for the city’s new recreation facility as construction enters its final stages.

Upland Design Group’s Kevin Chamberlin said the project is making steady progress with window framing currently being installed to allow for the addition of exterior metal panels. Chamberlin said the construction team aims to complete the final punch list by January before turning the building over for furniture and equipment installation.

“You’ll start to see it really change in the look of the outside,” Chamberlin said, “Interior-wise, we were talking scaffolding earlier for the inside at the pool. They’re working on trying to finish up the high part of the underside of the roof deck in the natatorium where the pool is.”

The board approved a request from YMCA CEO Mandy Perhay to add approximately $20,000 in electrical work to the fitness area. The modification includes installing a 400-amp panel and 17 additional circuits to accommodate the power requirements of treadmills and other exercise equipment.

“They have an exercise consultant that basically provides, they contract with this consultant,” Chamberlin said. “And so then them taking a look at the space last month, they had some other ideas and realized like, ‘Hey, if we could move some of the treadmill equipment, some of the more like, you know, the ones that require the most power over to this area, it’ll help out a lot.’”

The project remains in a strong financial position with more than $800,000 remaining in contingency funds. Chamberlin said the electrical change was necessary to avoid creating safety issues within the workout space.
