The Fentress County Board of Education authorized the approval of property criteria and the letting of bids for a new transportation and maintenance facility.
Director of Schools Kristi Hall said the facility could potentially house maintenance operations in addition to transportation services.
“Remember, the next process is, again, for you to approve the property criteria,” Hall said, “Then you give permission for us to let that bid. And then once those bids have been let and come back, you all will be the final approvals of those.”
Hall said the board previously used a similar process when purchasing the Union Bank building several years ago. The board also reviewed specific criteria for the property that was included in the director’s packet before the vote.
Attorney Evan Wright said an appraisal report for the property under evaluation included a cost approach for the type of building being discussed. Wright said the value for the property and the building itself was placed at $626,000.
“And what that is if you were gonna buy that property and build it today, that is his value on what it would cost to construct,” Wright said. “Well, I think it would include the fencing, but not like if there’s any equipment or anything of that nature up there with it.”
In other business, the board welcomed new member Maya Elmore and elected its chair and vice chair for the upcoming year.
