Cookeville Planners Approve Putnam Parkway Plat Plan

Cookeville Planning Commission approved a final plat Monday night for a new public street called Putnam Parkway to serve the Putnam County Bus Garage and Road Maintenance Department.

Community Development Director Jon Ward said the street dedication involves approximately 2.75 acres located on the east side of Tennessee Avenue across from the fairgrounds. Ward said the new road measures about 1,280 feet in length and features a 50-foot right-of-way ending in a cul-de-sac.

“So this is part of the city’s efforts to maintain this as a controlled-access facility and let development occur off parallel access streets and not the facility is restricted where we will not cut driveways off of Tennessee Ave,” Ward said.

Ward said the plat includes right-of-way dedication to the south for adjacent property and out to a planned access point. The county has already constructed most of the facility, which includes pads for bus maintenance.

“Our vision for that is that would likely be a T-intersection coming from the south up to that point versus just a very tight radius to make a turn,” Ward said.

Ward said the developer must contact public works to purchase and install street signs and stop signs.

“And the areas that you see between the street and Tennessee Avenue, they are reserving for potential future commercial development,” Ward said.
