$500,000 Project Could Save Warren County Taxpayers

Warren County considering a roughly $500,000 facilities project that would create a new Highway Department maintenance building while making room to move an ambulance operation to the county annex.

Warren County Executive Terry Bell told the Warren County Commission Monday the idea developed after the City of McMinnville approached the county about getting the ambulance out of Station Two. Bell said county officials have since discussed using the annex for the ambulance and constructing the maintenance building at the Highway Department.

“It’s going to cost close to a half a million dollars to do the whole project,” Bell said, “And probably save the taxpayers 250 or 300 thousand dollars by doing that. so we’ll be bringing that probably next month to the to the full commission for y’all’s approval.”

Bell said the Highway and Bridge Committee has already discussed the concept. The proposed Highway Department facility would also provide space for a salt bin, something Bell said the department will need regardless.

“The city has approached us about getting the ambulance out of the station two,” Bell said. “And so we’ve approached Josh and the Highway and Bridge Committee talked about it about moving the ambulance to the annex building and building Josh a maintenance building at the actual highway department.”

Bell said commissioners have not yet been asked to approve the project.

Bell did not provide a detailed breakdown Monday of how the county would achieve the estimated $250,000-$300,000 in savings.

In other business, the commission approved a three-year lease for school system equipment on a 911 tower and an agreement with the Tennessee School Boards Association for policy maintenance.
