Cumberland County Schools developing a formula that could tie annual TISA outcomes funding to school performance.
Director of Schools Rebecca Farley presented the draft to the board, which she called a starting point. The district expects to receive its next round of outcomes funding in December.
“There’s been lots of discussion in Cumberland County the last few years as to what to use that money for,” Farley said. “One year, the board used it to put a roof on one of the elementary schools. One year, the board used it to give the bonus to teachers.”
Farley said teacher assistants also received some of the money in a previous year. Discussions during last year’s budget process prompted officials to look for a more consistent method of distributing the funding.
“How can we divvy that out and come up with a formula for where you’re performing and, and what you earn, I guess?” Farley said. “This is just a draft.”
Farley said the board has typically decided how to use the funding in January or February. When the district distributed the money to employees in previous years, those payments generally came in March or April..
