Crossville voters rejected a proposed water referendum during Tuesday’s election with nearly 59 percent of participants voting against the measure.
Election officials said unofficial precinct totals showed 1,692 votes cast against the referendum compared to 1,188 in favor of the proposal. The results represented a difference of 504 votes among the 2,880 ballots reported across eight voting locations.
The measure failed to gain majority support in six of the eight locations included in the results. The largest margins against the proposal came at the Cumberland County Community Complex and Cornerstone voting locations.
At the Community Complex, 777 voters opposed the referendum compared to 549 in favor. Cornerstone reported 749 votes against the measure and 506 supporting it.
Oak Hill provided the strongest support for the referendum with 101 votes in favor and 93 opposed. Pamona also narrowly supported the proposal with two votes in favor and one against.
The referendum appeared on the ballot alongside three Crossville City Council races, including two regular council seats and one unexpired term.
