The Jackson County School Board approved the blueprints for a new CTE building during its Thursday meeting and will now begin accepting bids.
Maintenance Supervisor Josh Morgan said he worked with the fire marshal and determined the building has enough water pressure to support a sprinkler system without needing to add a pump. Director of Schools Jason Hardy said the system’s architect ready to move the project forward.
“He said he thought if everything was to go pretty smooth and get approved and get the bids, that next fall is what he said,” Hardy said. “He said latest maybe next January, but next fall. And he said he could get us specific timelines like, and that would be part of the bid, too.”
Morgan said the biggest challenge in creating the blueprints was meeting all the needs of the cosmetology section of the building. Morgan said the workshops in the building have been designed to be adaptable so they can be used for different kinds of classes as needed.
“That way if they do changes the fixtures in there, the plumbing and electric will be there for it,” Morgan said. “You know, everything will be ready.”
Morgan said the majority of the recent changes to the blueprints are internal adjustments that will not be noticed by the students in it.
“It’s mostly, you know, electric, mechanical, and stuff like that,” Morgan said. “As far as the way the building looks and stuff, none of that’s changed.”
Chairman Mark Brown said the project has taken longer than they expected to get to this point, but it is in a good place now.
“Like Josh (Morgan) said, I mean they’ve got everything and it’s as big as what we’ve said,” Brown said. “It’s everything, everything details is in it now and we’re ready to go.”
