Cookeville 9th Grader Arrested After Threat


A Cookeville High Ninth Grader under arrest after making a threat during a Tuesday morning English class.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, the student stood up in the middle of class at approximately 9:40am and said they had a gun in their backpack. The teacher in the classroom notified staff in the front office with a panic button and they contacted the district’s school resource officers.

The student was immediately detained and searched. The student was charged with a threat mass violence on school property and is being detained in the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Juvenile Detention Facility.

Cookeville High School removed the lockdown and resumed normal operations at 9:55am.
