New Healthcare Training Coming Thanks To Grant

New health care training options are on the way to Upper Cumberland thanks to a grant to the Upper Cumberland Workforce Board.

Workforce Board Director Becky Hull said the $275,000 grant will provide healthcare training opportunities, including EMT training and apprenticeships for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) or Registered Nurses (RN).

“Need funding for that individual to be able to take the training,” Hull said. “And yes there is a significant shortage of EMTS in our rural county, and so this is to support that particular career pathway.”

Hull said the amount of funding allocated to each county depends on the specific needs of the county. Hull said the board met with all county officials in December to discuss how the money could best be spent. The need for EMTs, critical, Hull said.

“It seems dangerous that we do not have enough EMT workers,” Hull said. “And so, that is our intent, to be able to build that workforce.”

Hull said this grant is exclusively for healthcare initiatives.
