Watson Looking to Become Confident in Setting for Jets

Cumberland County volleyball player Ivy Watson said she wants to prove to the team she can direct the offense as the setter.

Watson enters the upcoming volleyball season in her first full year as starting setter. Watson said she has seen the growth throughout her time at Cumberland County. Watson said the community has come together during their run.

“It’s been really awesome,” Watson said. “And I just really thank my family and friends and all the fans who came and supported us last year cause I’ve just had a lot of people come up to me and like congratulate me and that just means a lot knowing people are watching and listening to us cause I think our story’s pretty awesome.”

Watson is in her second year playing competitive volleyball. Watson started playing during her eighth grade year. Watson said she felt she stepped up at the end of last season.

“I’ve got a lot better from freshman year,” Watson said. “We had some really good outsides that kind of got a lot of the sets cause they can hit better than me. So this year, I’m hoping to get a couple more kills and a lot more blocks.”

Watson said she hopes to bring something extra next season.

“I showed I was worth having on the team,” Watson said. “I felt I brought a lot of aggression and good energy to the court.”

Watson returns alongside most of the Lady Jets roster entering next season. Cumberland County comes off a district championship last season. Watson said it felt really cool being a part of that experience.
