York's Franklin Looks to Up Intensity As Summer Progresses

York Dragonettes basketball player Cali Franklin said she wants to want to see her team pick up the effort in the new season.

Franklin saw different defenses thrown her team’s way during recent summer camps. York has seen zone defenses become more common as summer has started. Franklin said there is a difference between how they play zone as opposed to man.

“I think man [defense] we just, we’re really good off the dribble and so we can like, we’re fast, some of us,” Franklin said. “That’s the biggest thing is that we’re good off the dribble, but like the zone we panic, don’t know what to do when we get stopped.”

Franklin seeks to take York back to the state tournament for the fifth consecutive season. Franklin said all games are determined by who plays well for four quarters.

“I think you can play three quarters like good but it comes down to the last quarter and how hard you play, what team wants it most,” Franklin said.

Franklin said she looks forward to next season.

“I just want to enjoy every moment,” Franklin said. “It goes by really fast, we’ve seen that in the past three years, but just enjoying every moment with them, making the most of our time on the floor, off the floor.”

Franklin and the Dragonettes made it to the state finals last season. They lost in the championship game.
