Several Fentress County residents offered up ideas to help increase county revenues during a Commission Public Hearing Monday night.
Resident Todd York said free garbage and dumping are costing the county money as too many non-residents are using the service.
“As a taxpayer, I’m paying that for somebody to bring their stuff here,” York said. “We’re losing money now. I agree there’ll have to be some things changed at Solid Waste to be able to do this. Hire the people, get the scales fixed, have a quality control. It’ll cost a little money up front, but it will generate three plus million a year, easy. Now people are going to say, ‘well, why am I bringing my stuff to Fentress County if I got to pay?’ Take it to Scott County, I don’t care.”
Building permit fees, electric hookup taxes also suggested. Resident Angela Bayne suggested a road impact fee on new construction.
“We have had eight houses built on my street,” Bayne said. “Why do we not have a road impact fee for these people that are building the houses? Most of these are builders. Why is there not a road impact fee? Our road was tore up and then they come back and cold patch it. That’s not fair to the residents that live on this road.”
