Williamson Looks to Show New Side of Himself This Season

Cookeville football player Amaree Williamson said he wants to set the tone for the Cavaliers this season.

Williamson returns as one of the three starting offensive lineman for Cookeville. Williamson was part of a Cookeville offense that averaged over 24 points per game last season. Williamson said he wants people to see a different side out of him this season.

“People try to block you and they just can’t because you’re just such a dog, you’re just so nasty,” Williamson said. “I just like being physical, you know, I like running through people. That’s my favorite thing about football, being able to hit people.”

This year marks Williamson’s third year playing varsity football, all three on the offensive line. Williamson said it means a lot for him to share the field with those guys again.

“We love these guys, all of us,” Williamson said. “We have a super, super strong bond. We’ve been together for, even just the sophomores, even the freshmen, all of them, we always try to make sure we have a strong bond cause that bond is something that you can’t break no matter what.”

Williamson said he looks to give everything towards another key aspect of football this season.

“It takes a lot mentally to be able to have the mental toughness to play football,” Williamson said. “But I feel that once you get that, everything comes naturally.”

Williamson also plays defensive line for the Cavaliers. Williamson said he hopes to play defensive line after he graduates.

Williamson said while he has gotten a couple of initial offers, he wants to wait until after football season to think more about his future.
