With classes starting in about two weeks, Tennessee Tech’s enrollment numbers looking strong for the Fall semester.
Tennessee Tech Vice President for Enrollment and Communication Karen Lykins said Tennessee Tech is edging closer to 11,000 enrolled students for the Fall semester, which would surpass the 10,511 enrolled students that were tallied last fall. Lykins said the freshmen class is a catalyst for a promising Fall semester.
“We had a terrific number this year, almost 2,200 new students attended that orientation,” Lykins said. “So this Fall, we are looking at the fourth year in a row that we will be somewhere over 2,000 students, we anticipate for the freshmen class.”
The current enrollment numbers are not final, as more students may enroll while others may withdraw. Lykins said some students wait till the final days before the start of the semester to make decisions.
“These are very important days,” Lykins said. “There are a couple of key points where students and families make decisions, life happens, but the payment deadline is August 11, so that’s a date where we look and see if there are any students there that we can help get through any barriers that they are facing.”
Lykins said it is becoming more common for students to make decisions in the final days. Lykins said it is not too late to enroll.
“You can still actually be admitted to the university and come this Fall,” Lykins said. “If there is something that you had plans made somewhere else and want to come to us, we will be happy to help you.”
Lykins said she believes the university’s efforts to put students first are what have led to strong enrollment numbers year in and year out.
September 1 will be the official headcount of total enrolled students for the Fall semester. Lykins said 14 days after the first day of class is what the state government recognizes as official enrollment numbers.
