Overton Chamber Program Bringing Disc Golf To Livingston

A new disc golf course coming to Livingston thanks to the Overton County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Overton program.

Participant Rhonda Young said the course construction is already underway. Young said the idea for the nine hole course came from the popularity of the success at Cookeville’s Cane Creek Course.

“We set a goal, and then we set out and went to everybody in the community,” Young said. “Local businesses. And the help and support from our community has poured in. We went above and beyond our goal we’ve set, so now we’re like, ‘What else can we do?’”

Young said Leadership Overton has been in touch with TCAT to construct benches to install along the course. The course will be located at Dillard Pond by Livingston Academy.

Disc golf is similar to regular golf, but players throw Frisbee into a chain basket to instead of hitting a ball into a hole. Program Participant Emily Crawford, who works with Vol State, said there are already people wanting to use the course.

“We alreafy have someone who wants to hold a tournament there, so we’re really exited,” Crawford said. “I think it’s R&M Pharmacy, so we’re super excited about it.”

Chamber President Zach Stephens said Leadership Overton has existed within the Chamber since 1995. He said the program is meant to help develop and nurture community leaders.

“We do that through various programming, whether it is visiting with our elected officials, touring the water plant, visiting with industry in other forms,” Stephens said.

Stephens and Leadership Overton shared the update on the disc golf course at Monday’s Overton County Commissioners meeting. Although there was no completion date announced, the Chamber would like to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony when the course opens.

Several Leadership Overton participants were present at the Commissioners meeting for the presentation.
