Overton Schools Suspend Boys Basketball Team; Hazing

The Overton County School System suspended the Livingston Academy Boys Basketball Team Friday afternoon amid a hazing investigation.

School officials termed the team “temporarily suspended” in a social media post. Overton County School officials confirmed the statement posted by the system on social media.

“We take all reports seriously and are actively and thoroughly investigating the matter,” The Statement said.

The system asked for the community’s patience while it continued the investigation. “Because this situation involves students, we cannot share further details at this time,” the Statement continued.

System officials said the safety of students remains the number one priority.

The boys team plays its first game November 20.

Tennessee has state laws on hazing, but they more specifically apply to college institutions. Colleges and universities are required to notify students of the policies annually.
