West Cumberland Considering Crossville For Merger

Facing significant debt, West Cumberland Utility District is considering merging with several utility districts, including Crossville.

Crossville City Council discussed whether or not they should make an offer for a merger. During the discussion, the council had mentioned that West Cumberland is fielding offers from BonDeCroft Utility District and the Cumberland Plateau Water Authority. Council Member Mark Fox said he would like to see some numbers.

“I don’t have an opinion yet because I don’t have anything to look at,” Fox said. “So I would like to see some numbers as diligently as everybody could work, and let them know that we are in good faith with trying to come up with a proposal.”

West Cumberland has given Crossville a deadline of January 20 to make an offer. City Manager Valerie Hale said she does not think they could put together an offer before the deadline.

“We have a lot of projects going on, and if you are not serious about moving forward, then I would hate spending all this time creating numbers,” Hale said.

The council will revisit the discussion at next month’s work session.
