The city of Crossville has awarded an estimated $1.1 million bid to construct a new building for the Catoosa Utility District.
The 10,350 square foot metal building will provide office space and a maintenance shop. Crossville City Manager Valerie Hale said the Catoosa had needed a new space for quite some time.
“When the city of Crossville merged with Catoosa back in the mid-2000s, they did not construct a facility at that time, and we had been renting ever since that time,” Hale said. “So the city council felt that it was time to build our own facility moving forward.”
Hale said the city has been paying an estimated $1,850 per month to rent out the current facility. Hale said the city is excited to complete the Plateau Road facility.
“It is a way to save money, but it’s also an upgrade of their current facility,” Hale said. “Their current facility is small, and they have outgrown it.”
Hale said the project was budgeted into the current fiscal year. Hale said the new building will improve Catosa’s service to customers.
Hale said construction will not begin till the start of the new year. Hale said the project will take about a year to complete.
