The Jackson County Airport will install additional security cameras thanks to an estimated $4,200 grant.
Jackson County Airport Manager Jim Young said the airport was able purchase four new cameras that were furnished and installed by Twin Lakes. Young said the cameras will close up one of the security gaps the airport had.
“We constructed another T-Hangar facility that involves 10 new T-Hangars,” Young said. “And we had no security cameras on the new facility, and that was primarily why we wanted to install more security cameras out there.”
Young said the airport has not had issues with theft, but has had issues with unauthorized people being on the runway at night. Young said the quality of the cameras is top-notch.
“We have real-time security video 24/7, and it’s also archived, too,” Young said. “So there is always a record of what transpires out at the airport.”
Young said he can zoom in with the cameras and even work well at night. Young said the airport is what is called an “unattended airport,” meaning that there is not always someone there. Young said the airport was thankful to receive the grant.
“Definitely pleasantly surprised that we were awarded the grant, but felt like that, and it was a worthwhile endeavor,” Young said. “So we are very happy and consider us very fortunate.”
Young said the grant will save the airport money and use budgeted funds elsewhere.
