Stewart Continuing LA Dance Journey After Midwest Start

What began as a childhood fascination in Ohio has turned into a national opportunity for Livingston Academy dancer Audrey Stewart.

Stewart’s love for dance started early, but opportunities to compete were limited in her hometown. With no local competitions available, her passion remained more of a dream than a reality, until her family relocated to Putnam County during her freshman year.

Her sophomore season marked a turning point. Stewart tried out for the Livingston Academy dance team for the first time and earned a spot, though her season was cut short before she could finish.

“It was really difficult.” Stewart said. “But it was super easy to adjust to because of all the people and just all of the great community that was able to help me through it all.”

Despite the setback, Stewart’s resilience stood out. Entering the current season, she was nominated as one of two team captains. Stewart said she credits having that role to both her growth as a dancer and the support system around her.

“Where I was at before is complete opposite to where I am now, in terms of just community and just the people that I’m around,” Stewart said. “I grew up watching the Ohio State dance team, the college, and it definitely sparked an interest.”

Much of Stewart’s inspiration can be traced back to Saturdays in Ohio. A lifelong Ohio State fan, she often watched Buckeyes football games, especially the rivalry matchup against Michigan. While the action on the field was exciting, it was the halftime performances that truly captured her attention. Now in just her second year of competitive dance, Stewart is experiencing moments she once only watched on television. Stewart said that transition came with preparation, but also awe.

“I feel like they prepped us really well throughout the summer,” Stewart said. “But no matter how much preparation you get, you’re still going to be just in awe of the lights and how big the field actually is with all the players and all the lights and the stands being so crowded and just everyone walking by you and just the commotion of it all.”

Earlier this month, Stewart helped lead the Lady Wildcats at the Smoky Mountain Regionals, where Livingston Academy placed second overall. The finish qualified the team for nationals at Walt Disney World in January.
