Wattenbarger Returns To Cumberland County Football

Cumberland County has announced Mark Wattenbarger as the school’s next football head coach.

A Cumberland County alumnus, Wattenbarger played quarterback for the Jets in the mid-1980s before continuing his football career at Tennessee Tech. His coaching roots run deep in Crossville, and his return marks a homecoming decades in the making. Wattenbarger previously led the Jets from 1997 to 2005, a stretch that included multiple playoff appearances.

Since leaving Cumberland County, Wattenbarger has remained a fixture in Tennessee high school football. He served as head coach at Stone Memorial High School, where his teams posted strong regular-season performances, including undefeated runs, before later leading Sequatchie County High School.

“My main goal is to grow the program and make it successful while reconnecting the community and alumni with the school and football program.” Wattenbarger said in a statement released by the school Monday morning.

Wattenbarger takes over for Noah Repasky.

As Cumberland County looks ahead to the upcoming season, the Jets will do so with a coach who has worn their colors, led their program, and now has another opportunity to shape its future.
