The Monterey Police Department launching a new website, providing additional resources and through new features.
Public Information Officer David Corley said his goal was to improve upon the previous department page on the city’s website.
“Our old page was simply, just a single page, with very little information,” Corley said. “And we just we wanted some more in depth things that could help us interact with the citizenry.”
Corley said the department is rolling out the website in phases, implementing new features as time goes by. Corley said the website launched a few weeks ago, including basic features of the site like news sites, news releases, a contact page and Tennessee Highway Safety Office campaign information.
Corley said the department plans to introduce a new court and payment site, automating the process. The website will feature information about the city court in the near future. Corley said there will be more features rolling out in the spring.
“[It] will provide an easier methodology and tool for people who have to pay for a fine or a citation,” Corley said. “They’ll be able to do that completely online.”
“We just wanted it to be a good resource in addition to social media so that we can communicate with residents of Monterey and that they can communicate with us, as well,” Corley said.
Corley said the Monterey Community At Risk Database System is currently in the roll out phase Corley said the department will not implement the system until the spring. Corley said Officer Martin Walker is leading the program, designed to protect at risk individuals in the community.
“It’s a way to protect our most vulnerable residents here at Monterey,” Corley said.
Corley said the program will encourage people to share identifying information about their loved one to help officers locate them if they are ever lost or separated. Corley said the goal of this program is to reduce death or injury.
