Pile Leads York With Shooting, Leadership Entering Postseason

For Emma Pile, the York Dragonettes’ final stretch of the regular season is about more than wins and losses. Pile said it is about energy, growth and leaving a standard that lasts beyond the scoreboard.

Pile is one of four seniors on the roster, a group that she said has focused on building chemistry both on and off the court. Pile said that connection can be the difference when games tighten late.

“I think we’re all best friends,” Pile said. “We all hang out. We go to pool parties, we eat together, and we’re all best friends, but we don’t show it out on the court like we do.”

That bond has fueled one of the most prolific shooting seasons in program history. Pile etched her name into the York record books with a 47-point performance, knocking down 15 three-pointers in a single game. The outburst set a school record and placed her among the top long-range shooters in Tennessee girls basketball history for most threes in a game.

Pile has helped guide the Dragonettes through a demanding schedule designed to prepare them for postseason play. Pile said facing tough competition has sharpened the team as it enters the final weeks of the season.

“I think it will help us learn and grow,” Pile said. “And hopefully learning from our mistakes will make us better.”

Listed primarily as a small forward, Pile’s ability to stretch defenses from the perimeter has made her a focal point of opposing game plans. She has consistently been one of York’s leading scorers, delivering timely shooting and steady production in key matchups throughout the season.

But Pile’s standards do not stop when the final buzzer sounds. Pile carries that same drive into the classroom, where she maintains a 4.2 GPA. Pile said she wants the Dragonettes’ energy to show up in warmups, in practice and in academics.

“I want to try my best, try to get the [best] score that I can,” Pile said. “I want to be the best [Dragonette] anyone has ever had.”

A multi-sport athlete who also competes in volleyball and softball, Pile said she has embraced the role of example for younger teammates, balancing performance, leadership and preparation as York looks toward the postseason.
