Derek Woolbright worked his last full-time shift at Jackson County EMS/911 Wednesday, concluding a 17-year tenure with the department.
Woolbright began his career at the agency in 2009 as an 18-year-old student seeking part-time employment. He described his time at the station on North Murray Street as a period where he grew up both personally and professionally.
“In my wildest dreams I could have never envisioned the opportunities, experiences, satisfaction, and relationships this job would bless me with,” Woolbright said.
He said he was appreciative of the guidance provided by leadership figures such as Shelby Bryant, Michael Smith, and Keith and Heather Bean. Woolbright noted that he finished his final shift in the same unit number where he worked his first shift.
“Jackson County EMS/911 has played a large role in making me the person and professional I am today,” Woolbright”s statement said.
Woolbright thanked his co-workers for their support during difficult calls and long shifts. He acknowledged the trust the community placed in him to care for their loved ones during emergencies in the statement.
“The greatest blessing of them all has been the opportunity to help my friends and neighbors for a living,” Woolbright said in his statement.
While stepping away from full-time duties, Woolbright”s statement said he will continue to serve as Assistant Chief of Dodson Branch Fire Department. Woolbright also plans to maintain a role as a part-time paramedic and Public Information Officer for Jackson County EMS/911.
“I ask for your prayers as I embark on a new and intriguing full time challenge in a different avenue of public safety,” Woolbright said.
